Growing into butchery

What does it mean to work in the family business?

Small Business

Within our community, we feel our customers' appreciation for our family business. For many years, Anthony and Keri worked at the market with the help of their boys, not expecting that any of them would one day decide that butchery might be a profession for them. For the tradition of the meat market to continue, it is essential that another person from the younger generation steps up and decides that it is the profession for them, the thing that they want to devote their life to, the business that they will put first above all else.

For a small business to be successful, it must immerse itself in the surrounding community and put that community at the forefront of its purpose. Our family business has been a gift to us; the fact that this space has always been a butcher shop since the early 1960s is a rare and special thing. Working in a trade is something that is inside of a person; it's not just a profession, it becomes a part of that person or that family.

The Tradition of Butchery Continues

Our small business brings such joy to our family, but it's important to note that the trades are learned over time. Learning to be a butcher started long ago for Anthony Sr., and twenty-four years ago for Junior. Our family spends every day, every weekend, and every holiday preparing food so that others may have a delicious meal with their families at home. Owning a business comes with many responsibilities, and it never takes a day off. The company always comes first, no matter what. When family business is done correctly, it is a magical part of the community that it serves. As referenced in the video above, Anthony Sr. has worked in the trade since he was a teenager. When his children were born, he made sure they visited the market often, helped out, and felt the rewards the business brought. Over time, Junior has come to enjoy the world of Butchery and the commitment to the trade. For our family, it is a privilege to continue this tradition.
